　pop in, pop out, pop round の違いを説明してくれませんか？

　こんにちは、マリタ。この３つの句動詞 pop in, pop out, pop round
についての質問ありがとう。初めに、これらの句動詞にある 'pop'は、少
しの間どこか他の所に行くという意味です。そこで、その質問は、どこへ
行くのか？という質問になります。

　Pop out というのは、中にいた建物、多分、家や会社ですが、そこを離
れて、手紙を出したり牛乳を買ったり昼ごはんを食べたりといったような
ことをするために、外に出ることです。いくつか例を見てみましょう。

　I'm just popping out to get some milk. I'll be back in a minute.
　（ちょっと牛乳を買いに出てくる。すぐに帰るからね。）
　I'm afraid David's not here at the moment. He's just popped out
for lunch. Can I take a message?
　（申し訳ありませんが、只今デヴィドは不在です。昼食にちょっと出て
います。何かお伝えしておきましょうか？）

　Pop in は、その反対の意味です。どこかに pop in するというのは、
建物や部屋の中に入ることです。いくつか例をあげますと、

　Simon, can you pop in to my office to discuss the sales figures?
　（サイモン、売上げ高について話をしたいので私のオフィスに来てくれ
ないか？）
　I'll just pop in to the shop to buy a paper. Wait for me outside.
　（新聞を買いにその店にちょっと寄るから。外で待っていてくれ。）

　私たちは、非常に気軽に誰かの家を訪ねるときに、よく pop in を使い
ます。

　I'll pop in and see you on Saturday. I'll be near your house
anyway.
　（土曜日、ちょっと立ち寄るよ。とにかくそばまで行くから。）

　このような状況のときには、pop round をよく使います。

　Sarah, why don't you pop round some time for a cup of tea? I
haven't seen you in ages.
　（サラ、いつかちょっとお茶でも飲みに来ないか。長いこと会ってない
だろう。）

　このように、pop in も pop round も、ちょっと誰かを、普通その家を
訪ねるという意味で使われます。Pop out は、少しの間建物から出ること、
pop in は、少しの間建物の中に入ることです。

　Pop out には、もう一つ意味があります。それは、何かが押されたり、
圧力がかかったりして、元の位置から外れるときに使います。例えば、

　The cork unexpectedly popped out of the champagne bottle. The
champagne went everywhere!
　（コルク栓が、思いがけずシャンパンの瓶から飛び出した。シャンパン
がそこら中に溢れた！）

　これらの句動詞の違いを理解するのに役立ったと思います。さて、もう、
私はお茶を飲みに友人の家に行く時間です。仕事の後には、一息入れまし
