　[BBC English で英語を学ぶ]第596号の「アクロポリス博物館騒動」の記事の第１パラグラフに、

という部分があります。最初は、よく文の構造が分からなかったのですが、"what he claimed was an offer by the British Museum to loan some of the sculptures that were hacked from the Parthenon at the turn of the 19th Century" を rejecting の目的語とするのが一番自然かなあということで、メール版とは訳を変えてあります。（このブログでは、メールで送信した訳文を少し変えることはよくあります。）
