話では、インターネットやオンライン・ゲームに取り憑かれていることを
描写するのに使われている。
関連する動詞：to be addicted (to something)(何かに熱中して
いる、中毒している)
junkies
'a junkie'というのは、薬物に中毒している人を表す非公式な言葉
である。この話では、また、コンピュータ・ゲームに熱中している人々を
指すのにも使われている。中毒者。
hooked on
'addicted to'(中毒になっている)の非公式な言い方。
hedging their bets
'to hedge your bets'は、一つ以上の選択肢に投資することで間
違いをする機会を減らすという意味の表現である。複数のものに賭ける、
両面作戦を取る。
brainwaves
脳内で作られた電気信号。脳波。

夜中以降、インターネットに接続することを禁止した。

も、睡眠も取らずに過ごす。
当局は、間違いのリスクを避けるために、様々な解決法に資金を投じて
いる。
あるスキームでは、人々の脳波をモニターしている。一方、別のスキー
ムでは、より伝統的な形態の娯楽に若者たちを参加させようとしている。
