　マルセル、質問の投稿ありがとう。

　実は、あなたが書いた文はすべて正しいですが、英語で最も一般的なの
は、最初の文「I thought they would still be alive」です。still
のような副詞を伴うとき、副詞の最も自然な位置は、助動詞と（基）本動
詞との間です。Still は、過去ではなく現在のあるものが、意外にも完了
していないことを言うのに用いられます。次の例を聞いてください。

　She’s still sleeping.（彼女はまだ眠っている。）
　You’re not still working are you?
　（まだ仕事をしていないのかい？）
　They are still arguing about the phone bill.
　（彼らは、まだ電話代の請求書でもめている。）

　では、あなたの文に戻りましょう。最初の文と２番目の文は同じ意味だ
としても、強調するものに違いがあります。違うものを強調しています。
私が言いたいのは次のようなことです。

　I thought they would still be alive - ここでは、alive が最も
重要なことだと強調されています。
　I thought they would be alive still - この例では、still が最
も重要なことだと強調されています。

　３番目の文「I thought they would be still alive」は、その文を
表現する最もまれで不自然な方法です。全然現代英語には聞こえません。
それで、私は、最初の２つの文に書かれている構文に限るようお勧めしま
す。あとは、強調したいものに合わせて表現を選んでください。
