　今日の句動詞： Mess about - messed about - messed about


　意味： mess about と言うのは、しばしば、重大で大切なことをしてい
なければならないときに、ばかな振舞をすること。


　文法： この句動詞には、目的語はあってもなくても構いません。動詞
と不変化詞とは、普通分けられません。目的語があるときは、しばしば、
前置詞を伴います。


　The children were messing about - 正
　The children were messing about with the computer - 正

　They messed with the computer about - 誤


　例文: The teacher got really angry with the children. She kept
asking them to do their work quietly, but they wouldn't stop
messing about.
　（その教師は、本当に子供たちを怒っている。教師は、子供たちに静か
に作業をするように言い続けたが、子供たちはふざけるのを止めようとし
なかった。）


　同義語: goof around, goof off, kid around, fool about, carry on,
clown around, lark around, play the fool, be silly
